About the Course

Troia Golf

Troia Golf was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and opened in 1980. It is one of Portugal's most distinctive golf experiences — a links course set on the narrow Troia Peninsula, with the Sado estuary on one side and the open Atlantic on the other. The combination of the peninsula setting, the ocean winds, and the quality of the design creates an experience that is unlike any other in Portuguese golf.

The course plays to 6,330 yards from the championship tees and is characterised by natural dune terrain, Atlantic winds, and a routing that takes full advantage of the peninsula's unique geography. Several holes play directly alongside the ocean, and the views across the Sado estuary to the town of Setúbal add a distinctive visual dimension to the round.

Troia Golf has hosted the Portuguese Open on multiple occasions and is regarded as one of the finest links courses in Portugal. The peninsula is accessible by ferry from Setúbal — a journey that adds to the sense of occasion and the feeling of arriving somewhere genuinely special.

Why It Stands Out

I

The Peninsula Setting

Troia Golf is set on a narrow Atlantic peninsula — with the Sado estuary on one side and the open ocean on the other. This unique geography creates a course of extraordinary character, where the ocean is visible from almost every hole and the Atlantic winds are a constant presence.

II

Robert Trent Jones Sr. Design

Troia Golf was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. — the same architect responsible for Valderrama and Las Brisas — and represents one of his finest works in Portugal. The design takes full advantage of the peninsula's natural terrain to create a course of lasting quality.

III

The Ferry Journey

Troia Golf is accessible by ferry from Setúbal — a journey of about 20 minutes across the Sado estuary. The ferry journey adds to the sense of occasion and the feeling of arriving somewhere genuinely special — a golf destination that requires a little effort to reach, and rewards that effort generously.

IV

Portuguese Open Heritage

Troia Golf has hosted the Portuguese Open on multiple occasions, cementing its reputation as one of the finest tournament venues in Portugal. The course has tested the world's best players and consistently delivered memorable professional golf.
