Sotogrande, Andalucía, Spain
The original Sotogrande course — a Robert Trent Jones Sr. design of great elegance and historical importance, the course that established Sotogrande as one of Europe's premier golf destinations.
About the Course
Real Club de Golf Sotogrande was founded in 1964 and designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. — the first course he designed in Spain, and the course that effectively created the Sotogrande golf destination. It is one of the most historically significant courses in Spanish golf, and it remains one of the finest.
The course is set among cork oak trees and Mediterranean pines in the hills above the Sotogrande estate, and the combination of the tree-lined fairways, the water features, and the immaculate conditioning creates an atmosphere of great elegance. The layout is more forgiving than Valderrama but no less interesting, and it rewards intelligent play and precise ball-striking.
The club has hosted numerous professional events over the years and has been a regular venue for the Spanish Open. It is one of the most respected private clubs in Spain, and access for visiting golfers is limited — making a round here a genuine privilege.

The Course
Real Club de Golf Sotogrande was the first course Robert Trent Jones Sr. designed in Spain, and it set the template for the Sotogrande golf destination that followed. Playing here is to play the course that started it all — a piece of Spanish golf history.
Before Valderrama, before La Reserva, before any of the other courses that have made Sotogrande famous, there was Real Club de Golf Sotogrande. The course has a historical importance in Spanish golf that no other course in the region can match.
Unlike Valderrama, which demands the very highest level of ball-striking, Real Club de Golf Sotogrande is a course that rewards intelligent play without punishing the average golfer. It is a course that can be enjoyed by players of all abilities while still offering a genuine challenge to the best.
The combination of cork oak trees and Mediterranean pines creates a landscape of great beauty and variety. The course uses the natural terrain with intelligence, and the routing through the trees creates a sense of enclosure and intimacy that is unlike the more open character of Valderrama.
