Verdura Resort
Rocco Forte's Sicilian masterpiece — golf, sea, and estate living.
Overview
Verdura Resort
Verdura Resort sits on the south-west coast of Sicily, set within 230 hectares of private estate along the Mediterranean. Opened in 2009 as a Rocco Forte property, it was conceived from the outset as a complete golf and leisure destination — two championship courses designed by Kyle Phillips, a clifftop par-3 course, a Rocco Forte spa, and a private beach, all within a single seamlessly managed estate. The East and West courses quickly established themselves among the finest resort courses in Europe, offering sweeping sea views, immaculate conditioning, and a strong sense of occasion throughout.
For golf groups, Verdura delivers something genuinely rare: the quality and integration of a world-class resort with the warmth and character of Sicily. There are no transfers between hotel and course, no logistics to manage, and no compromise on standard. The estate's scale means that even at full occupancy, the courses feel unhurried and the resort retains a sense of privacy. For those travelling with non-golfers, the spa, beach club, and dining programme are compelling in their own right — making Verdura one of the most complete mixed-party golf destinations in the Mediterranean.
Why We Recommend It & How It Fits
Why We Recommend It
The Golf
The East and West courses are among the finest resort layouts in Europe. Kyle Phillips routed both along the Sicilian coastline, delivering sweeping sea views from almost every hole and a level of strategic variety that rewards multiple rounds. The Par-3 Course adds a scenic and competitive interlude between championship days.
Complete Estate Integration
Everything is within the estate — courses, hotel, spa, beach, and dining. There are no transfers, no logistics, and no time lost between activities. For golf groups, this integration is the defining operational advantage: the rhythm of the week is entirely uninterrupted.
Rocco Forte Standard
As a Rocco Forte property, Verdura delivers a level of service and attention to detail that is consistent and genuinely high. The brand's characteristic warmth — attentive without being formal — suits the Sicilian setting well, and the staff's knowledge of the courses and estate is thorough.
Non-Golfer Appeal
The Rocco Forte Spa, private beach club, and multiple dining venues make Verdura a compelling destination for those not on the course. The spa is one of the finest in Sicily, and the beach club — with its own restaurant and water sports — provides a full day's programme independent of golf.
Sicily as a Destination
Verdura's location on the south-west coast places it within reach of some of Sicily's most celebrated cultural and culinary experiences — Agrigento's Valley of the Temples, the salt pans of Marsala, and the local seafood and wine traditions of the Sciacca coast. The estate's own kitchen garden supplies the restaurants with produce that reflects the island's exceptional larder.
How It Fits Into a Heritage Itinerary
The Standalone Sicily Week
Verdura is best experienced as a standalone destination — five to seven nights on the estate, rotating between the East and West courses with replay rounds built in. The self-contained nature of the resort means the week has a natural rhythm and pace that is difficult to replicate with a multi-base itinerary.
A First Mediterranean Golf Trip
For groups new to Mediterranean resort golf, Verdura provides the ideal introduction — the operational ease of a single-base stay, the quality assurance of a Rocco Forte property, and courses that are genuinely world-class without requiring prior knowledge of the destination.
A Mixed-Party or Couples Itinerary
The combination of championship golf, a world-class spa, private beach, and exceptional dining makes Verdura one of the most complete mixed-party destinations in Europe. Non-golfers are genuinely well catered for, and the resort's scale means both groups can operate independently without compromise.
A Corporate or Society Golf Week
The estate's private dining facilities, dedicated golf concierge, and ability to accommodate larger groups make it a natural choice for corporate golf events and society trips. The courses provide a competitive and memorable format, and the resort's operational infrastructure handles the logistics seamlessly.
This is the finest golf resort in the Mediterranean — not because of any single element, but because of the quality and coherence of the whole. The courses are exceptional, the hotel is genuinely five-star, and the Sicilian setting adds a cultural and culinary dimension that no other golf destination in Europe can match. For groups seeking a week of championship golf without compromise, Verdura is the answer.
Rooms, Dining & Wellness
Rooms & Suites
The 203 rooms and suites are distributed across the estate in low-rise buildings that follow the natural contours of the coastline. Interiors reflect the Rocco Forte aesthetic — warm, understated, and rooted in the local vernacular, with Sicilian ceramics, natural stone, and handcrafted furniture throughout. Most rooms have private terraces or balconies with sea or garden views, and the suites — particularly the clifftop villas — offer a level of privacy and outlook that is genuinely exceptional.
Dining & Atmosphere
Dining at Verdura is one of the strongest aspects of the stay. The Zagara restaurant serves refined Sicilian cuisine using produce from the estate's own kitchen garden and local suppliers — the seafood, in particular, reflects the exceptional quality of the south-west Sicilian coast. The Amare beach restaurant provides a more relaxed setting for lunch, with grilled fish and local wines served directly above the sea. The Hibiscus bar and terrace is the natural gathering point for the group at the end of a day on the course.
Spa, Wellness & Leisure
The Rocco Forte Spa at Verdura is one of the finest in the Mediterranean, spanning over 4,000 square metres and incorporating indoor and outdoor pools, a hydrotherapy circuit, and a comprehensive treatment menu drawing on Sicilian botanical ingredients. For non-golfers, it provides a full day's programme in its own right. For golfers, the recovery facilities — including a dedicated sports treatment menu — make it a genuine operational asset across a week of championship golf.

Position & Access
Location & Access
Verdura Resort sits on the south-west coast of Sicily, approximately 40 kilometres east of Agrigento and 90 kilometres south-east of Palermo. The estate occupies a private stretch of Mediterranean coastline near Sciacca, with all three golf courses contained within its 230 hectares. There are no other golf courses of comparable quality within easy reach — Verdura is the destination, not a base for a wider circuit.
Courses Within Reach
Arrivals & Transfers
Palermo International Airport (PMO) is the primary gateway, approximately 90 minutes by road. Catania Fontanarossa Airport (CTA) is also accessible, approximately 2.5 hours. Verdura can arrange private transfers from both airports. The resort is best approached as a standalone destination — typically 5 to 7 nights — rather than as part of a multi-base itinerary.
